Jeff King has responded to the Political Courage Test, providing voters with clear stances on key issues.
Pro-life | Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I am Pro-Life, but feel this decision belongs in the hands of the states per the 10th Amendment. |
No | Do you support United States' combat operations in Afghanistan?
No | Do you support a timetable for withdrawal from Afghanistan?
I do not support our combat operations in Afghanistan because there are no clear requirements to deem the mission a success. When Congress votes to approve military action, there should be a clear objective so we know when we are done. At this point, however, a timetable for troop withdrawals will undermine our efforts and possible put our soldiers in danger. |

The federal Department of Education is a bureaucratic mess that needs to be eliminated. Our federal education budget continues to increase while our test scores and international rankings decrease. We need to eliminate the Department of Education and provide funding to the states directly. |

I am currently 33 years old and have been paying into Social Security for 10 years. I will not become eligible for Social Security benefits until some time in the 2040s. I have a 0% confidence level that the program will be there for me to receive benefits when eligible. |

We need to limit the size and scope of the federal government. We do this by transferring power back to the states, and privatizing government programs where possible.
I am a supporter of the Fair Tax, which will eliminate most federal taxes and replace them with a consumption tax. Under the Fair Tax, the tax rate for high income families would be 23% and the tax rate for low income families would be 0%. |
1) Reduce the size and scope of the federal government. We need to consider repealing federal statutes that fall outside the scope of the constitution and return that power to the states. 2) Pass a Balanced Budget Amendment that would require Congress to pass a budget each year. We also need to implement term limits for both the House and Senate. 3) Reform the overly complex and burdensome tax code by moving to a consumption based tax. This will broaden the tax base and allow businesses to retain more revenue to put back into the economy. |
